Are you an interior design firm?
While our founder has roots in the design and construction industry, we limit our design services to recommendations on lighting size and placement for our direct clients along with the design of the individual lantern or light. We are glad to work alongside designers, architects and builders ensuring they find the perfect match for their clients – Industry Experts, make sure to ask us about our trade program!
Are your lanterns gas or electric?
Our lanterns come in natural gas, propane (LP), and electric.
Do you make custom lights?
Each light offers a variety of customization options – Everything from the color to the candles to the flame (if gas) to the glass to the actual copper design can be tailored to your needs.
Is the entire light manufactured in the USA?
The body of your light starts out as a long sheet of copper which is cut, bend, solder, rivet, sand, and clean the copper to create the body of your copper light at our family’s factory in Cayce, South Carolina.
All of the brass used in assembling the electrical components and the gas burners are purchased from a factory in Hartsville, South Carolina.
They order the tempered glass and specialty glasses are manufactured from a company out of Miami, Florida.
The electrical sockets are manufactured in China because there is no longer a company in America that manufactures electrical sockets for light fixture production.
What material is the light made from?
All of our lights are made from 20 and 32-ounce copper. The copper is of high quality and will withstand time and the elements. To give an idea, most exterior lights on the market are made from nickel, aluminum, or a composite. These lights will last about 3-4 years before the weather corrodes the light. Contrast that to our light fixtures which are made of only solid copper and brass. Copper and brass do not rust in the elements, but rather patina to an aged bronze finish over time. When you purchase one of our lanterns you will more than likely have it for life.
What other finishes are offered besides copper?
All of our fixtures are manufactured in solid copper but there are a variety of powder-coated colored and natural-looking finishes available such as powder-coated black for a wrought iron look or our bronze finish which involves submerging the copper fixture in a selenium bath.
How will the copper age over time?
When you first receive your copper lantern you will notice it is shiny like a new penny. However, also like a penny, the lantern will darken over time to a deep bronze finish. This process, depending on the exposure to the elements, should take about 3 years for the fixture to entirely patina. Exposure to harsh conditions only increases the patina and beauty of copper light. Because our lanterns are solid copper and brass, both of which do not rust in the salty Gulf air, our lighting is suitable for coastal conditions.
Will the copper go green over time?
The answer to this question is: it depends. Copper will verde (the green finish: think Statute of Liberty) under certain circumstances. If there is a lot of acidity in the air where you live, the light will go green more quickly. If you live close to the ocean you may also see the light verde within a few years. However, the majority of locations might never see a copper light verde or might within 30 to 40 years, because yes, our lights last that long and even longer.
Do you ship?
Yes, we ship nationally!
How long will it take to receive my light(s)?
Most lights ship in 4 to 6 weeks.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Coastline Copper offers a lifetime guarantee. All lanterns are guaranteed free of defects in workmanship or material under standard operating and installation conditions. Electric components are guaranteed free of defects for 5 years. Our guarantee does not cover damage resulting from weather, mishandling, or broken glass. If a lantern is found to be defective, Coastline Copper will only repair or replace the fixture and excludes shipping costs.
What is your return policy?
Because our lighting is made to order and each light includes a lifetime warranty, we typically do not accept returns. If you are for some reason dissatisfied prior to installation, please reach out to our team and we will be glad to consider each case.
